Winnipeg Whiteout, yet Jets wear blue?

Apr. 21, 2015: It was great to see NHL Playoff Hockey return to Winnipeg last night as the Winnipeg Jets played host to the Anaheim Ducks. Congrats to David Thompson, True North and the fans of Winnipeg. I remember watching Dale Hawerchuk play there in front of the infamous Winnipeg Whiteout - where fans all wear white for playoff games. FULL STORY

In an unscientific study, McDavid goes to the Buffalo Sabres

Apr. 17, 2015: This weekend will be a big weekend for the NHL TV ratings. On top of the excitement of the first round playoff games, there will also be the NHL Draft Lottery to see who will win the right to draft Erir Otters phenom Connor McDavid. Will it be the Buffalo Sabres, Ariozona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs or some other team? FULL STORY

Last call - Hometown Hockey NHL Playoff Pool

Apr. 15, 2015: It is that time of year again. It is time for the NHL Playoffs, where 16 teams compete for the Stanley Cup, poolies across the globe try to win some dough and the Toronto Maple Leafs work on their golf game. It is a tough time of year for us Leaf fans. When my Dad was alive, he enjoyed running a playoff pool each season. Since his passing in 2008, his tradition has continued and we are ready to launch the 19th Annual Hometown Hockey Playoff Pool. Today is the final day to register. FULL STORY

Bald Eagle spotted on the way to school

Apr. 14, 2015: Each morning, Tristan and I travel west along Wyandotte Street on our way to his school. Last week, we spotted a Bald Eagle in the field behind the Riverside Sportsmen Club in Windsor. There has been a fair bit of media coverage of the eagles that can be spotted in this area. FULL STORY

Habs beat Maple Leafs, Phaneuf plays final game as a Leaf?

Apr. 12, 2015: The Toronto Maple Leafs finished their regular season last night with a 4-3 shootout loss against the Montreal Canadiens. Based on his comments to the media after the lopsided loss earlier in the week to the Columbus Blue Jackets, it appears that captain Dion Phaneuf has likely played his last game in a Leafs uniform. Apr. 10, 2015: Today, I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a great lady, relentless supporter and a dear friend. Judy Bobka passed away yesterday. Our sympathies to her husband Dan, her daughter Sarah and family. Cornwall, SDG, and the province at large has lost a wonderful human. FULL STORY

SNAPSHOT - Golden Crowned Kinglet in Stoney Point

Apr. 6, 2015: Today, we saw a Brown Creeper and a Golden Crowned Kinglet in our backyard. Both are new entries into our Bird Journal. We recently filled the feeder in hopes that the Orioles, Cardinals and Blue Jays will return this spring. The golden-crowned kinglet (Regulus satrapa) is a very small songbird. Adults are olive-gray on the upperparts with white underparts, with thin bills and short tails. They have white wing bars, a black stripe through the eyes and a yellow crown surrounded by black. The adult male has an orange patch in the middle of the yellow crown. FULL STORY

Apr. 6, 2015: It has been too long since we have paid attention to our bird feeder. With spring here, we filled the feeder over the weekend and it was a busy few days in the backyard. Today, we saw a Brown Creeper lurking in the trees by Lake St. Clair. While he never made it to the feeder, we were able to catch a small glimpse of him in this out of focus shot. FULL STORY
