Hometown Hockey NHL Playoff Pool - Join Today

Apr. 13, 2014: It is that time of year again. It is time for the NHL Playoffs, where 16 teams compete for the Stanley Cup, poolies across the globe try to win some dough and the Toronto Maple Leafs work on their golf game. It is a tough time of year for us Leaf fans. When my Dad was alive, he enjoyed running a playoff pool each season. Since his passing in 2008, his tradition has continued and we are ready to launch the 18th Annual Hometown Hockey Playoff Pool. FULL STORY

Stanley is 6 foot 6, weighs 209 pounds and last played for the Waterloo Wolves. In the second round with the 26th pick overall, the Spits picked up LW Daniil Verity from the North York Rangers. With the final pick in the second round (40th overall), Windsor added centre Clayton Keller from Shattuck St. Mary’s. FULL STORY

Last time Red Wings missed playoffs, Bush Sr. and Mulroney were in office

Mar. 22, 2014: The Detroit Red Wings are in tough to keep their streak alive. If the playoffs started this morning Mike Babcock’s team would have been on the outside looking in for the first time since the 1989-90 season. At the time of this writing, they are sitting in the second wild card spot. To put into perspective how long the streak has been, Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. were the American Presidents during that season, Brian Mulroney was the Canadian Prime Minister and Sergei Makarov was the NHL Rookie of the Year. Phaneuf already! Locking up Dion for seven years is good for Maple Leafs

Jan. 1, 2014: The Toronto Maple Leafs recently signed captain Dion Phaneuf to a seven year, $49 million deal and there are many that think General Manager Dave Nonis made a mistake. This deal works out to a cap hit of $7.0 million per year, only marginally larger than his current $6.5 annual impact. I, for one, believe this is a good deal for the Buds. FULL STORY

Dec. 19, 2013: The Cornwall PeeWee A Typhoons travelled South of the border to Jay Peak, Vermont to participate in the Annual Green Mountain Avalanche U12 “A” Girls hockey tournament. The Typhoons were undefeated and returned to Canada as Tournament Champions. The Coaching staff would like to thank the parents and family members for making this weekend possible for the girls. Waterfront Tank Farm debacle falls on Lauzon’s feet

Dec. 11, 2013: There are many people in the City of Cornwall who have expressed displeasure in the Federal Government's decision to re-institute a tank farm along Cornwall's waterfront. As this story unfolds and more manure hits the fan, fingers are pointing in many directions. Interestingly, MP Guy Lauzon seems to have the least amount of fingers pointing towards him and his government which I find surprising. FULL STORY

Ontario Auditor General recommends assistance for children with Autism

Dec. 10, 2013: Today, Ontario Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk released her 2013 Annual Report and her findings are consistent with the reality that families like ours live everyday - much progress has been made in relation to autism awareness and funding, but much more is required. Tristan will likely receive IBI services sooner than most in the Province, but he will still miss the optimal four year target. FULL STORY

Harbour not a place to return Storage Tanks - MP Lauzon needs to answer

Dec. 5, 2013: I received a disturbing email tonight from a good friend, former Councillor Chuck Charlebois. It is very disappointing to learn that the Federal Government is reinstituting this oil tank farm use on the City's beautiful waterfront. Sadly, it is being reported on TheCornwallDaily.com that both Mayor Bob Kilger and MP Guy Lauzon were “not aware of anything going on there”. FULL STORY

Our Town, Our Team - Storm Reloaded
Our Town, Our Team - Storm Reloaded

Dec. 4, 2013: As a relative newcomer to Windsor, I was excited for the beginning of last year's Windsor Spitfires season. All indications pointed to them having a solid year in 2012-13, but the true focus was on making a run to host and win the Memorial Cup this year. The team tagline was fittingly - Reloaded! Kerby Rychel and Nick Ebert have been traded to the Guelph Storm. FULL STORY
