Maple Leafs roll over Islanders in second, secure victory

Oct. 21, 2014: While it might be cliché to call tonight’s game a must win for the Toronto Maple Leafs, however falling to 2-5 with a loss to the New York Islanders was not a desirable outcome. The Leafs powered by a four goal second period came out of Long Island with a 5-2 victory. FULL STORY

In a classy move by the Ottawa 67’s, Kilrea returns behind the bench

Oct. 18, 2014: Growing up as a Cornwall Royals fan, I remember the intense rivalry they had with the Ottawa 67’s. I also remember feeling frustrated at how good Brian Kilrea and his team were on many nights. Last night, Killer was behind the Ottawa bench for another game to celebrate his 80th birthday. A classy move by the Ottawa 67’s to say the least. FULL STORY

Is Staal the right fit for the Maple Leafs?

Oct. 15, 2014: There has been much speculation in NHL circles that Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal might be moved this season, if the team continues to struggle. TSN reported last night that a team like the Toronto Maple Leafs would have definite interest in the big, power centre. They speculated that the asking price for Staal would be one of Tyler Bozak or Nazem Kadri, Jake Gardiner and a first round draft pick. FULL STORY

Maple Leafs top line steps up, leads team to OT win

Oct. 14, 2014: The Colorado Avalanche went into tonight’s game looking for their fifth consecutive win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre. It was not meant to be as Phil Kessel scored 34 seconds into overtime to give the Leafs their second win in as many games. FULL STORY

Is it possible that Leafs Nation has finally lost its patience?

Oct. 14, 2014: It was disappointing to the see a $200 Toronto Maple Leafs jersey hit the ice during the third period of Saturday’s match against the Pittsburgh Penguins. At the time, the Buds were down 5-2 and it was not a fun night for the fans. I understand that tickets aren’t cheap – throw in parking, dinner, a sitter and a few overpriced beers and it is an expensive night, but it is only game two of a very long season. Sadly, the same thing happened in Edmonton earlier in the week. FULL STORY

Maple Leafs make right call on Nylander, wrong destination though

Oct. 7, 2014: Yesterday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that 2014 first round pick William Nylander had been returned to the Swedish Elite League. The Leafs made the right call by not rushing the youngster, but is Sweden the right place for him? Mississauga Steelheads or Toronto Marlies may have been a better destination for him. FULL STORY

Jul. 26, 2014: This morning I was standing on the dock and this Green Heron landed on the dock a few doors down. He was fishing for minnows. I grabbed the camera and in my rush, I didn’t get the settings quite right but here are some photos of his visit. Cynthia and I saw him a few weeks ago when we were out for a kayak ride. He came to this dock a couple of times today. FULL STORY

NHL Proposal - 2015-16 Expansion and Realignment

Jul. 18, 2014: There has been a great deal of speculation in the media recently about Wayne Gretzky being part of a group that would bring NHL hockey to Seattle. Those rumours follow closely on ones that suggest that Quebec City is close to bringing back the Nordiques. Based on these two possible NHL destinations, I would like to make the following NHL expansion and realignment proposal for the 2015-16 season. FULL STORY

SNAPSHOT - Neighbour knows best

Jul. 4, 2014: On Canada Day weekend, myself and the neighbours to the east and west were out on our docks fishing. My neighbour to the west and I caught nothing but weeds, but our neighbour to the east seemed to be pulling in fish after fish. Tonight after our boat ride, I decided to try my new lure. Ten casts in, I got a hit. Fish jumped out of the water and the jitterbug landed this large mouth bass. FULL STORY

Five possible destinations for James Reimer

Five possible destinations for James Reimer

Jul. 1, 2014: Towards the end of last season, Toronto Maple Leafs Head Coach Randy Carlyle made it clear that Jonathan Bernier was his number one goaltender. As such, it is not surprising that James Reimer has requested a trade out of Toronto, as he believes he is worthy of that same status. Yesterday, former Montreal Canadiens rearguard Josh Gorges refused to waive his no-trade clause to go to Toronto. It is rumored that the Buds were willing to part with Cody Franson as part of that deal. FULL STORY
