Stoney Point - February 16, 2015 - TSN is reporting today that the Florida Panthers have interest in acquiring Phil Kessel from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The story says that “Florida Sun-Sentinal beat writer Harvey Fialkov tweeted Monday that the Panthers are not willing to part with a young stud to get him.”

This story begs the question - what is the price for Phil Kessel? Former GM Brian Burke acquired him for two first round picks. Could that be the price now? Is the price a roster player, a prospect and a first round pick? Does he need to be replaced with another goal scorer?

If the Panthers aren’t prepared to part with one of their young, talented players - there isn’t much left on that squad that should be of interest to the Maple Leafs. I would think there would be 28 other NHL teams that would like to acquire Kessel if they didn’t have to give up a young stud.

I can’t see this deal happening. Of interest, Toronto plays host to Florida tomorrow night at the ACC.
