Plans are Winding Up for the 8th Annual Ingleside Firefighter Challenge

Ingleside - June 24, 2014 - The 8th Annual Ingleside Firefighter Challenge is less than a month away and organizers are busy with planning out the details of this year’s South Stormont Community Event. This year’s event will offer a full day of activities sure to please the entire family starting out the day with free children’s activities including Bubble Bounce inflatables, The Barnyard Zoo petting zoo and pony rides and a children’s firefighter challenge. The Schneider’s Foodland Community Cruiser and a beer garden will be on site throughout the day.

Invitations have been sent to all neighbouring fire departments in SD&G and surrounding area inviting firefighters to go head to head in a test of skill, endurance and teamwork as they make their way through a skills course. The challenge is meant to simulate the first couple of minutes of a fire and will include such demonstrations as forcible entry, hose pulls, victim drag, ladder climbing and more. Families are encouraged to attend the event and cheer on their fire department.

New to this year’s event is a Women’s Charity Challenge; eight female competitors will take on the grueling course in full gear to benefit The Canadian Cancer Society. “Our fierce female competitors are standing tall to extinguish Cancer’s flame.” Dan Brisebois event organizer.

Another new addition to the Challenge is a vehicle extrication demonstration. The South Stormont Fire Department will be demonstrating a vehicle extrication in the afternoon. The exercise will demonstrate the use of powerful hydraulic rescue tools and techniques used to free a trapped person. This will provide a unique look into the use of the Jaws of Life and various other rescue tools. The exercise will be narrated in order to capture the full experience and knowledge behind what is being performed.

“This is our 8th year having this great community event, every year we grow bigger and bigger. The Ingleside Firefighters' Association plan this event as a way to give back to our supportive community, and along with numerous local sponsors, make this event better every year. Ingleside will be rocking with live entertainment from 6:00pm to 1am featuring Grace Willison, Graham Greer and The Shiners. The 8th Annual Ingleside Firefighter Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, July 19th in front of the Ingleside Shopping Plaza.
