Welcome aboard - free forrestry bus tour
“The goal is to bring attention to multiple aspects of forest management conducted in Eastern Ontario by SNC and its partners,” said tour coordinator Steven Hunter.

Finch - June 4, 2012 - Seating is limited for a free bus tour being offered by South Nation Conservation on June 13, 2012.

“The goal is to bring attention to multiple aspects of forest management conducted in Eastern Ontario by SNC and its partners,” said tour coordinator Steven Hunter.

Departing at 8:00 a.m. from SNC’s Finch headquarters and returning at 4:00 p.m., the tour will stop at several points of interest in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

The tour is offered free of charge, on a first come, first served basis. A light lunch will be provided.

Hunter notes the focus will be on management of Conservation Authority owned forests: “Participants will be able to view how forests can be managed sustainably, ask questions of South Nation professionals, and engage with local forest managers.”

South Nation Conservation is currently updating its long term Forest Management Plan. The updating process involves staff working with a variety of stakeholders to ensure the Plan meets the long range objectives of our commuities.

“Forest management planning is a process that helps identify the resources and opportunities available on forest properties and defines environmental, financial, and social objectives”, explains Hunter.

In addition to SNC’s upcoming forestry tour, June 6th is international Clean Air Day. Trees are an important contributor in providing clear air locally. SNC takes this opportunity to remind residents of two important forestry programs: SNC’s tree planting program (to increase forest cover in the watershed); and the Woodlot Advisory Service (to assist woodlot owners in understanding the values and opportunities of their woodlots).
