Cornwall - July 16, 2012 - As a matter of fact, a local film company, Reel Thing Films, has taken film making to the next level to make a full length feature film titled Dark Cuts. The movie is about a small film crew unit that go out into the woods only to find a real killer stalking them. This horror/comedy genre feature will last about approximately an hour and 30 minutes, an average running size for a film in this type of genre.

"It started out as an idea, to actually make a different kind of film. Not a documentary, but as a different genre for Cornwall," states Josh Welsh, a local actor who plays a part in the film, and a grade 12 student at Saint Lawerence Secondary School. "We weren't too sure which genre to go with, but we decided to go with a horror/comedy genre. It seemed like a good choice." Welsh has been into acting since the age of four, and hopes to go on to do bigger and better things with this movie. "I see Ryan Gosling as my inspiration (since he is from Cornwall) and look where he is now."

Filming for Dark Cuts took place last summer in and around the Cornwall area. Post-production for the film just finished a few months ago. "The movie itself is more of a comedy than a horror film, but it still has that genre. It's more of a dark comedy," Welsh said.

Dark Cuts features an ensemble cast of other local talented actors including Logan Stanley, Dylan Brissard, Rebecca Runions, Alex Merizzi, Jillian Lynch, Dom Gauthier, Maddie Roy, and Tyler Sherrington. The premiere of the feature film takes place on Friday, July 20, at 8:30 p.m. at the Church on Sydney Arts Centre, 130 Sydney Street. The cost is $5 and viewers are encouraged to bring sleeping bags for a camp-like movie experience. The night will include smores, pop, and roasted marshmallows to include the camping theme.
