Windsor - May 22, 2019 - Dr. Hsiao d’Ailly is a Windsor West resident and a first-generation immigrant. She received her Master’s degree in education in 1987 and PhD in Psychology in 1992 from the University of Western Ontario. For the past 20+ years, Hsiao has been a successful university professor and department chair at the University of Waterloo. Having served as a university senator and held various executive and leadership positions at community organizations, she has a solid understanding of governance. Hsiao also has a strong track record of advocacy. Over her 3-term tenure as a department chair, she successfully fought for additional space and resources to hire faculty and staff to enhance the quality of her program and to better serve her students. She raises funds for various charitable organizations and helped secure $1 M government funding for the community counselling agency where she served as the President of the board.

Hsiao believes in social justice and community development and is dedicated to contributing and enhancing individual and collective wellbeing for ALL. As the head of the Social Development Studies, Hsiao hired the first quadriplegic lecturer and the first transgender tenure-tracked faculty member in her department. She also spearheaded a Walls-to Bridges program where the department offers a course in a women’s federal prison taught with indigenous teaching methods, giving students from inside and outside of the prison an opportunity to learn together. Hsiao is a proud sponsor of the Windsor International Film Festival. She enthusiastically participates in many community events and supports community organizations in Windsor. Hsiao is committed to bringing her energy and passion to serving Windsor West as its MP.

“Windsor, a border city with a vibrant college and university, beautiful waterfront, diverse population, skilled labor force, and world-class manufacturing expertise, has a lot of capacity for us to build upon” Hsiao said. “We need to attract more investment, secure more jobs, grow and diversify our economy, and at the same time protect our environment”, she added. As a MP, Hsiao will facilitate more collaboration between Windsor and Detroit, and encourage further community/university/college partnerships. She will be a strong voice for Windsor West and will seek federal support for made-in-Windsor community and business development initiatives.

Windsor West has not had a MP representing the governing party in the past 17 years. This needs to change. Windsor West is a critical pathway for Canada-US trade; it deserves special attention and additional resources from the federal government. Hsiao will be that strong voice at the government table for Windsor West. Hsiao will deliver the financial resources Windsor West deserves.

With the knowledge, skills and experience gained from her university and community leadership, Hsiao is well equipped to serve Windsor West and ALL its people. She will be a strong and effective champion for Windsor.
