Windsor - April 28, 2019 - The Can-Am Golf Series is partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association to raise awareness of the need to talk and take action.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens announced the partnership at Roseland Golf and Curling Club, where the first of four Golf Series events promoting the Can-Am Police Fire Games will take place this June 17, 2019.

“We know the conversation around stress, anxiety and PTSD is increasing but that more needs to be done. We’re hoping the Can-Am Golf Series can do its part to move that conversation forward,” said Mayor Dilkens. “We have a chance as a community to show our support for the first responders who put their lives on the line for us, and we get to have some fun doing it.”

“CMHA-WECB is absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the community partner for the Can-Am Games coming to Windsor in 2022. We know that first responders are more likely than members of the general public to develop behavioural health problems, including depression and PTSD, and firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. These professionals often have little time to care for their own health and mental health needs. In addition, stigma continues to be a barrier to seeking support and service. Over the next 4 years we look forward to this partnership that will provide many opportunities to provide education and engagement for first responders and their families.” Claudia den Boer, CEO, CMHA-WECB

Four financial commitments were also announced:

Team Goran of Remax Preferred Realty has signed on as the four-year Presenting Sponsor for the Golf Series while Rose City Ford, LiUNA! 625 and the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation have signed on as Premier-Chief Level partners.

This year’s golf event will be a shotgun start - scramble format. Registration and breakfast begin at 9am, and tee time is at 10am. Lunch will be served on the course, followed by a cocktail reception, BBQ and prizes and silent auction from 4pm.
