Cornwall - Feb. 28, 2011 - One of the most difficult tasks I have as your Member of Parliament is to identify the priorities you have for our government. It is not easy to solicit the opinions and priorities of over 82,000 constituents. My staff and I work hard at determining exactly how we can best deliver your message to the House of Commons in Ottawa.
True democracy can only function effectively if the majority of citizens have their say in the decisions taken by their government. It is important that as many constituents as possible have their priorities brought forward and acted on if appropriate.
Recently my office sent out a survey asking constituents to prioritize the importance of nine issues our government is currently dealing with. I thank all of you who took the time to complete the survey and return it to us. You cannot imagine how helpful it is in my efforts to represent you. When discussing various issues in the House of Commons or in Caucus meetings I can tell all present, with conviction, how the constituents in SD&SG feel about the topic. The greater the number of people who reply to my surveys the more credible my input is.
Below please see the survey results which outline what the top priorities (by percentage) are for the constituents of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.
Economy - 51.0%
Health Care - 35.4%
Senior Issues - 21.9%
Immigration - 18.2%
Veterans - 10.4%
Agriculture - 9.4%
Law & Order - 9.3%
Crime - 8.3%
Environment - 4.7%
Please continue providing me with your feedback.
