Cornwall - Feb. 22, 2011 - Denis Sabourin, a long-time community activist, former constituency worker for former MP Bob Kilger and school board trustee announced that he is filing his papers to the Ontario Liberal Party in order to seek the provincial Liberal nomination for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

"Much of my career has been in working for the public and I feel it is time now to do more for our region," said Denis Sabourin. "My objective is to provide a strong voice to represent our unique urban and rural regions in order to help them fulfil their economic potential."

Sabourin has plenty of experience when it comes to campaigning in provincial and federal elections. He was the federal Liberal candidate in 2008, losing to current MP Guy Lauzon by 17,292 votes. Further, he was the provincial Liberal candidate in 1995 losing to former Cabinet Minister Noble Villeneuve by 11,290 votes.

Sabourin currently works on Parliament Hill as the Chief of Staff for Yukon M.P. Larry Bagnell, Official Opposition Critic for Arctic Issues and Northern Development.

Ontarians go to the polls on Thursday October 6, 2011. The Liberal Nomination is now wide open with the recent announcement that current MPP Jim Brownell will not be seeking re-election. To date, former Cornwall Councillor Mark MacDonald and retired St. Lawrence Collage Director Pat Finucan have announced their intention to seek the Liberal Nomination. On the Conservative side, Winchester businessman David Guy and South Glengarry Mayor Jim McDonell have announced their intentions to seek the PC Nomination. At this point, there are no announced candidates for the other parties.
