Cornwall - Apr. 12, 2011 - The Federal Election Campaign is starting to heat up as more Canadians seem to be paying closer attention to the issues. Tonight, is the national Leaders debate and often this debate sparks increased interest in the election campaign.

CTV News/Globe/Nanos conducts a daily poll of the numbers. Nanos had this to say, “Nationally, Conservative support stands at 39.7%, while the Liberals are at 31.2%, the NDP at 16.8%, the BQ at 7.8% and the Greens at 4.0% . The highlight of yesterday’s tracking, however, is that we are starting to see some interesting possible movement on the Leadership Index. As you know, this is the second election for which we have used the Nanos Leadership Index. It is designed to accomplish a number of things. It is a one day snapshot of the views Canadians have of their leaders on trust, vision and competence. I consider it a leading indicator to monitor in terms of possible change in the election. Consider it a more granular spotlight on the very popular Best PM measure that is very common in the research industry.”

In the riding of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, Conservative incumbent MP Guy Lauzon will seek a fourth term. He will be challenged by Cornwall City Councillor Bernadette Clement, who will run for the Liberals and the NDP will be lead by community activist Mario Leclerc. The Green Party has selected Cornwall business person Wyatt Walsh as its candidate. Darcy Neal Donnelly has joined the race as the Libertarian candidate.

In the 2008 Federal Election, Lauzon defeated Liberal Denis Sabourin by 17,292. Canadians go to the polls on Monday May 2, 2011
