Interprovincial Air Tour to touch down in Cornwall
More than 60 airplanes will touch down at the Cornwall Regional Airport on May 26 as part of the 2011 Interprovincial Air Tour.

Summerstown - May. 4, 2011 - More than 60 airplanes from across Ontario, Quebec and the U.S. will touch down at the Cornwall Regional Airport on May 26 as part of the 2011 Interprovincial Air Tour.

Now in its fourth year, the air tour will see participants travel to six different communities in Ontario and Quebec over a four-day period from May 26 to 29.

More than 60 airplanes will be flying in the tour, carrying a total of more than 120 people. One hundred of the participants are pilots, including at least 14 female pilots.

On May 26, the participants will depart from 30-plus airports throughout Ontario, Quebec and Michigan, and at midday will converge on Cornwall.

Weather permitting, the 60-plus airplanes will begin arriving in Cornwall around 11 a.m. on May 26. The airport will be far busier than usual that day, which will make for an interesting few hours of plane-watching for aviation enthusiasts.

The participants will then tour the Nav Centre before embarking on a bus tour of the city which will include a stop at the new Ontario Power Generation Visitor Centre. The welcome dinner will be held at the Nav Centre, where the participants will stay overnight.

The next day, the 60-plus airplanes will fly east to Sherbrooke before making additional stops and visits in Quebec City, Mont Laurier, Val d’Or and Kirkland Lake in the following few days.

The planes will depart the Cornwall Regional Airport shortly after 9 a.m. on May 27, and it promises to be quite the sight as more than 60 airplanes will all take off within about one minute of each other.

The air tour is being hosted by Aviateurs et pilotes de brousse du Québec (APBQ) and the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA), and the two organizations are supported by affiliated local associations in Sherbrooke (CAES), Quebec City (Ailes Québécoises), Mont-Laurier (APPA), Flights 59 in Cornwall and Flight 94 in Kirkland Lake.
