Portraits of Honour tour to stop in Cornwall
The Portraits of Honour tour features a massive mural honouring the Canadian soldiers, sailors and aircrew who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.

Cornwall - May. 11, 2011 - A national tour that is working to raise funds for Canadian troops and their families will be making a stop in Cornwall.

The Portraits of Honour National Tour will be set up at the Cornwall Armouries on June 13 and 14, and local residents will have a chance to contribute to the cause.

The tour features a breathtaking mural that honours the Canadian soldiers, sailors and aircrew who have lost their lives in Afghanistan.

The massive mural, which was painted by Ontario native Dave Sopha over a two-year period, features the face of every soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.

Sopha will be on hand on both June 13 and 14 to discuss the painting.

"The Portraits of Honour National Tour will provide Canadians from coast to coast with an opportunity to honour and celebrate our Canadian soldiers, pay respect to those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and to recognize the challenges that face those who will return home with lasting physical or emotional injuries," reads a statement on the tour's official website .

Funds raised through the tour will be donated to the Military Families Fund (MFF) as well as the Military Family Resource Centres across Canada.

The Cornwall stop of the tour will feature a fundraising dinner on June 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a speech by Sopha.

The mural will be open to the public on June 14 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and there will be other events ongoing such as school tours, a community barbecue, a chicken dinner and a visit by Sopha.
