Cornwall - Sep. 24, 2011 - The students and staff of Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS) hosted and participated in the school's first Extracurricular Fair on Thursday, an event that showcased the school's sports, activities and clubs so that new students could get familiar with all that CCVS has to offer.

The fair, located in the gymnasium, featured a variety of booths with information about each activity and a sign-up sheet. Students had the opportunity to learn and register for sports, math club, student council, art club, improvisation/drama club, Envirothon and much more. Senior students answered questions and encouraged younger students to get involved.

Teacher David Haley said General Vanier Intermediate School used to host the event with much success. He thought the event would be of benefit to CCVS students since so many students started at the school this year.

"Students don't always hear the announcements or know what's available for them to get involved with," he said. "This way, they might learn more about what is being offered."

"Just by looking at the sign-up sheets, you can tell a lot of students have been putting their names down," he added.

A number of senior students thought hosting the fair was a great idea.

"It's important for students to see what we have," said grade 11 student Sam Carriere.

"This school has a lot to offer," added Katrina Kilmer, grade 11.

"This school also has a lot of school spirit," said Ben Ciampaglia, grade 12.
