Cornwall - Jan. 23, 2012 - On February 6, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will mark the 60th anniversary of her accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, an occasion marked only once before by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, in 1897. To celebrate Her Majesty's 60 years of service to Canada as our Queen, his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, has commissioned the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The Diamond Jubilee Medal is meant to be a visible and tangible way to recognize outstanding Canadians of all ages and of all walks of life. These medals will provide an opportunity to honour exceptional Canadians for their contributions to their fellow citizens, their communities and to our country.
This is where your help is needed. I am asking you, as a constituent of SD&SG, to nominate a neighbour, a friend, a family member or any other worthy recipient you may know who is deserving of this medal.
There are many categories such as voluntary service, heritage and history, public service, humanitarian, education, healthcare, arts and culture, military, environment, and even politics. All categories are listed on my web site. A very short nomination form is also available on the website or at any of my offices.
If you wish to know more about these awards please visit the Governor General's web site at www.gg.ca/diamondjubilee , my web site at www.guylauzon.ca or contact any of my offices at your convenience.
