Local OSPCA branch vying for a Pepsi Refresh grant
The local Ontario SPCA branch is vying for a Pepsi Refresh grant for its "Save a Life, Fix a Stray" project.

Cornwall - Feb. 6, 2011 - The S, D and G branch of the OSPCA is in the running for a $10,000 Pepsi Refresh grant to help reduce the number of stray cats roaming the streets.

The "Save a Life, Fix a Stray" project would provide spaying or neutering to the multitude of stray cats that are roaming the streets of Cornwall and S, D and G.

By sterlizing 100 strays, the OSPCA says it will indirectly help reduce the number of stray cats on the street in the future.

It is said that 1 cat and her litters can potentially produce, over 7 years, approximately 370,000 cats.

If successful in securing the funding, the OSPCA intends to neuter 50 male cats and spay 50 female cats while also reducing the adoption fee for those strays so they can be adopted into loving homes.

However, in order to receive the grant, the local OSPCA must be among the top vote-getters in this cycle of the Pepsi Refresh Grant.

For that reason, they're encouraging all residents to go online and cast a vote in their favour each day leading up to the competition's Feb. 28 deadline.

As of Sunday, the local OSPCA sat in eighth place in the $10,000 grant category, and the top three vote-getters in the category will receive the funding.

Those interested in casting a vote of support for the OSPCA's project can do so by clicking here.

The grant winners will be announced on March 1.
