Cornwall - Apr. 23, 2011 - A new documentary about Cornwall native and former New York City nightclub king Peter Gatien is heading to the big screen.

Magnolia Pictures has acquired all world rights to Limelight, a new documentary about New York's booming nightclub scene in the 1990s - a scene that Gatien helped build.

Limelight made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday night, and Magnolia acquired the film just before its premiere.

The company is targeting an August theatrical release for the documentary.

The Cornwall native ran several hot spots in the Big Apple, but the clubs came under increasing scrutiny during former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's campaign to clean up the city.

Gatien eventually pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges and was deported to Canada.

Gatien's daughter Jen is a producer on the documentary.
