Cornwall - May. 18, 2011 - Prime Minister Stephen Harper will announce his new cabinet Wednesday morning at 11:15 am from Rideau Hall.

It is widely expected that Ottawa West - Nepean veteran MP John Baird will be named as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Baird's riding is very close to the northern border of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry and he has made regular appearances in our area. Most recently, Baird gave the eulogy at the funeral of long-time Conservative Joe Gunn.

It is expected that both Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Defence Minister Peter Mackay, will remain in their current roles.

Ministers Josee Verner, Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Lawrence Canon, and Gary Lunn all lost their seats in the May 2nd federal election. Stockwell Day, and Chuck Strahl who served in the last cabinet, both retired.

It will be interesting to see where Tony Clement ends up and what role, if any, Maxime Bernier and Bev Oda will play.

Yesterday, Vancouver.24hrs.ca reported that Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MP Guy Lauzon may be rewarded with his first cabinet position. "Four-term winner Guy Lauzon could find a junior agriculture spot to represent eastern Ontario", states their article.
