Green Food Bag Program launched in North Dundas
The Green Food Bag Program provides a non-profit, fresh fruit and vegetable distribution system that is available for purchase by all North Dundas residents (regardless of income level), for a small fee of just $10.00 per bag.

Winchester - Jun. 3, 2011 - The Green Food Bag Program provides a non-profit, fresh fruit and vegetable distribution system that is available for purchase by all North Dundas residents (regardless of income level), for a small fee of just $10.00 per bag.

There is no limit on the number of bags that an individual, couple, or family can purchase at one time. Each month the contents of the bags will change to reflect seasonal produce as well as market prices, availability, and customer feedback. The Green Food Bags are available for purchase in advance only, requiring registration and monies to be submitted by the submission deadline, which is the second last Friday of each month.

Registration locations for the Winchester Community Centre bag pick-ups include the Township of North Dundas Office in Winchester, the Ontario Early Years Centre in Winchester, the Nor-Dun Seniors Support Centre in Winchester (open only to seniors), and the House of Lazarus in Mountain.

The Green Food Bags are packed at the Winchester Community Centre and pre-ordered bags must be picked-up between 1-3 pm or 5-7 pm, otherwise bags will be donated to a local charity and reimbursement will not be provided.

The Green Food Bag Program is operated in partnership with Mike Dean’s Super Food Store in Winchester & Chesterville, the Township of North Dundas, and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit. Currently, the program organizers are seeking community produce growers & farmers to purchase Green Food Bag contents from, as well as volunteers to help pack the bags (a couple of hours, once every month or upon volunteer availability).

If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in selling produce to this new initiative, volunteering, or if you would like to know more about the program, please contact Meaghan Meerburg at the Township of North Dundas Office at (613) 774-2105 ext. 236 or email mmeerburg@northdundas.com.
