Chesterville - Jul. 13, 2011 - The Chesterville & District Historical Society and the North Dundas History Stewards in cooperation with the Chesterville Farmer’s Market is pleased to present Muskets & Calico - an 1812 style Dundas County Militia Muster.

On Friday September 2, 2011, the weekend will begin with “A Taste of 1812” Roast Beef Dinner at Trinity United Church Hall in Chesterville. With the dinner catered to by Trinity United Church ladies and 1812 era entertainment the $20.00 per person ticket is a bargain. While this is a fundraiser for the Chesterville & District Historical Society, but please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Dundas Food Bank.

Saturday September 3rd begins at 8am with the opening of the Chesterville Farmer’s Market at the Chesterville Fairgrounds. An 1812 style Dundas County Militia Muster will be the focal point of the day with peripheral events such as a Box Social (all proceeds from the auction of your picnic lunch will be given to the Dundas Food Bank), period sport demonstrations, 1812 Bicentennial Quilt Information, an Educational Trunk from the St. Lawrence War of 1812 Bicentennial Alliance and many other things to experience.

In the afternoon the scene moves to the Heritage Centre at 14 Victoria Street in Chesterville where a Euchre Tournament is being planned. For a $5.00 donation to the Chesterville & District Historical Centre you can have fun afternoon of card playing (with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd tournament spots), enjoy an English style tea and perhaps see a demonstration of the 1812 period card game - Whist.

But we need YOU! Potential 1812 Dundas Militia members are invited to join us for some “military” drill, those talented in the heritage crafts of lace making, spinning, weaving, basket making are needed and people in search of fun, good company and great local produce and baked goods can contact the Muskets & Calico Committee Chair, Carol Goddard at carol.goddard@sympatico.ca or 613 938 2455 for more info
