Cornwall - Jul. 22, 2011 - Municipal Works has completed the repairs to the watermain on Water Street, working throughout the night.

Water service was being turned on as of 9:00 am. It will take some time to fill both the service and feeder mains, however, everyone should have water within the hour. Everything is proceeding well.

Property owners in the area south of Second Street from Brookdale Avenue to Marlborough Street may experience discoloured water at their taps. This is due to the change in water direction within the distribution system. Residents may encounter this problem over the next 24 hours and are advised to let the cold water tap run until the water clears before using the water. Once the water is clear, it is okay to drink and do laundry.

City workers have started to fill in the excavation hole in order to restore the road before the end of the day. A temporary layer of asphalt will be placed over the excavation and City crews will return at a later date to redo the surface work permanently. Even though the hole is compacted, it will settle over the coming weeks.
