Alexandria - Jul. 22, 2011 - On July 11, 2011, SD&G OPP hosted its Annual (8th year) Golf Tournament at the Glengarry Golf and Country Club in Alexandria. The event, which has become one the elite tournaments in the area, was a sell out with 144 golfers registered. Several prizes were available to be won throughout the course, thanks to generous donations form several area businesses.

The tournament’s success is largely due to the hard work and dedication of its organizing committee where SD&G OPP receives support and partnership from the Caisse Populaire de la Vallee (Alexandria), Centre de Santé Communautaire de l’Estrie, Equipe Psycho-Sociale, Glengarry Inter-Agency Group, North Glengarry Youth Centre (recipients of funds raised) and community volunteers. The tournament’s major sponsor (Caisse Populaire de la Vallee) in Alexandria presented a cheque for $3500.00. In total, the event raised over $19,000.00 for the North Glengarry Youth Centre. It is estimated that over the course of its existence, the tournament has raised close to $100,000.00!

SD&G OPP Detachment Commander, Inspector Mike McDonell, who took part in the day’s activities, stated “I am truly overwhelmed and thankful of the support received by members of the community and our personnel as well”. He adds, “This was a great day and for a very good cause, providing our youth with opportunities to make right choices and be future leaders of tomorrow.”

The organizing committee would like to thank the many sponsors, volunteers, golfers and the Glengarry Golf & Country Club for making this day a success…See you all next year!
