Cornwall - Aug. 23, 2011 - Mayor Bob Kilger underwent surgery in Ottawa on Tuesday August 23 and is now resting comfortably at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. He is expected to remain in hospital for the next 7 to 10 days, after which he will continue his recovery at home.

The surgery was the latest step in Mayor Kilger’s ongoing treatment for stomach cancer. The prognosis for recovery is excellent.

Mr. Kilger is expected to be absent from City Hall for the next several weeks. During that time, members of Council will serve as Acting Mayor, following normal City protocols. The office of the Chief Administrative Officer will co-ordinate this schedule and will work with Council to ensure that all matters directed to the Mayor’s office are dealt with.

Mayor Kilger thanks everybody for the kind wishes and looks forward to returning to his office at City Hall as soon as possible. In the meantime, he asks that people respect his need for privacy as he pursues a full recovery.
