Cornwall - Sep. 9, 2011 - Approximately 29,000 students from across the Upper Canada District School Board started or returned to school Tuesday for the first day of the 2011-12 school year.

Tuesday morning, students at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS) hugged and waved to friends and staff as they entered the school doors for the first time this year. CCVS now welcomes students in grades 7-12, a change from last year’s grades 11-12 configuration.

In addition, St. Lawrence Secondary School - previously named St. Lawrence Intermediate School - now offers programs for students in grades 7-11. Next year, the school will become a grades 7-12 school.

“We’re very excited about the new school year and the new grade configuration,” said Principal Robert Currier. “New students to CCVS, as well as returning students, seemed to enjoy their first day back.”
