Cornwall - Sep. 28, 2011 - Citing her commitment to public and fire fighter safety and her party’s commitment to Ontario workers and working families, the Cornwall Professional Fire Fighters Association announces its endorsement of Elaine MacDonald for election in Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry.

“The NDP has a long history of fighting on behalf of workers and working families, and we share that vision,” said Cornwall Professional Fire Fighters Association Treasurer Jason Crites. “We believe this candidate and the NDP are the best choice for us and for all voters on October 6.”

While Ontario fire departments are run by municipalities, the provincial level of government has a major influence on key issues affecting them, such as recommended practises and the health and safety laws and regulations that affect professional fire fighters. In 2007, the Ontario NDP played a key role in a legislative initiative that led to increased protections for fire fighters from workplace illnesses such as cancers and heart disease.

“We support Elaine Macdonald and their vision for Ontario and we ask voters to do the same on October 6 in recognition of the importance of public and fire fighter safety,” Jason Crites said.
