Hospice Pumpkin Fest 2011 raises over $1,700 for a good cause

Cornwall - Oct. 27, 2011 - Cornwall Square in partnership with Hospice Cornwall and Carefor raised over $1,700 today with the Celebrity Pumpkin Carving and Pumpkin Dessert Contest. All proceeds went to support Hospice Cornwall.

The Celebrity Carvers were Cynthia Burk (Chateau Cornwall), Michelle Huntley (TD Canada Trust), David Murphy (Benson), Bernadette Clement (City of Cornwall), John Bolton (CJSS FM), Jason Jesmer (Drake), Logan (Corus Entertainment), Bill Makinson (TV Cogeco) & Amanda Brisson (Big Brothers Big Sisters), Dan Parkinson (City Police), Chris Rohde (TV Cogeco), Erica Glasberg (Standard Freeholder) and Chris Savard (Cornwall Square).

The Celebrity Desserts were prepared by Cakes & More, Joe Ginder (Ramada Inn, Judy Steward, Linda Applegate (Carefor), and Katerinas. The three judges were Dana Jackson (GNC), Joanne Brault (Ramada Inn) and Diane Campbell (Hospice).

Each carver was asked to raise a minimum of $100.00 in pledges to participate. The carvers has 90 minutes to create their masterpiece. The general public had the opportunity to vote on their favourite pumpkin by placing a loonie in the ballot box of the favourite celebrity.

At the end of the event, Michelle Huntley and the team of Makinson & Brisson were tied on the judge's scorecards. As such, shoppers were encouraged to make a donation into the ballot box of their favourite pumpkin to break the tie. Huntley’s "winking pumpkin" raised over $82.00 in pledges and the General Manger of TD Canada Trust was crowned the champion! Katerina’s won the pumpkin dessert contest.

Some of the pumpkins were sold to the general public and the balance were donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall.
