Cornwall - Oct. 28, 2011 - The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is pleased to announce that two groups of winners have been selected from amongst the elementary schools that participated in its Grade 4 “Hand Hygiene Poster Contest”.

The winners for the English poster are Brayden Latour, Corbin Shearer, Kaleb Prieur, Micaela Lalonde and James Gardiner from Bishop Macdonell Catholic School, and Nicole Schebel, Angélique Ouellette, Janie Dubois, Chloé Despatie and Lise-Ann Bouchard from École élémentaire catholique Embrun for the French poster.

“Our congratulations go out to the deserving winners,” states Linda Cléroux, Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control coordinator at the EOHU.

The two winning submissions were chosen for their creativity and for effectively communicating the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the spread of infections.

“We’re very proud of all the excellent poster submissions. There were so many great entries, we had a tough time choosing winners!”

Cléroux adds that the support of the participating schools and Grade 4 teachers helped make the contest a success.

In recognition of the winning posters, Bishop Macdonell Catholic School and École élémentaire catholique Embrun, will each receive a “Glo-Germ” hand hygiene kit for use in their schools.

In addition, the winning posters will be used in marketing campaigns to help promote hand hygiene. The posters can also be seen on the EOHU website at www.eohu.ca.

The poster contest was a group challenge for Grade 4 students, and required a minimum of four contributors for each poster submission. The goal of the contest was to get kids to think about the importance of handwashing, brainstorm creative ways to convey that message in a poster, and encourage teamwork.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit would like to thank everyone who entered the Hand Hygiene Poster Contest or supported it in their schools.
