Cornwall - November 25, 2011 - The President of the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the Board of Directors for the upcoming year. “There was an unprecedented number of candidates seeking a seat on the Chamber Board and I am pleased to welcome both the newly elected Directors and to congratulate those who were re-elected,” states Rick Shaver.

In making his announcement, Shaver noted some of the opportunities and challenges facing both the Chamber and the City of Cornwall in the coming year. “There are a number of positive activities going on in the city,” he states. “The City’s urban core continues to be enhanced and the new low level bridge construction is well underway. In addition, our Business Park has welcomed yet another major firm with the arrival of major retailer, Target, and indications are there is more to come.”

Shaver also identified issues facing both the Board and the City of Cornwall including the matter of arbitrated settlements that can have an impact on levels of taxation and the 2012 municipal budget. “The Chamber has committed itself to working, in concert with City officials on these and other matters and I look forward to a year of success and accomplishments for both the business organization and the community at large.”

Entering their second year on the Board are incumbents Michael Galvin, Joey Gault, Frank Holiday, Paul Lefebvre, and Derek Proulx. They are joined by re-elected Directors, Kevin Hargreaves and Jacques Perreault. Newly appointed Directors include Paul Desnoyer, Nada Kovinich, Eric McDonell and Lorne Wiebe. Jeff Bethune remains as Past President and Chair of the Board.

Non-elected candidates are: Jamie Gilcig, Alison Hudson, Stephen Kyte, Richard Marleau, Mai-Liis Renaud, Matthew Smith and Janet St-Pierre.
