Cornwall - November 28, 2011 - It is one of Cornwall’s most distinguished events. It is the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards and Citizen of the Year banquet and each year, the event pays tribute to a select group of business professionals and an outstanding citizen. Each one is recognized through a series of awards presented during the glittering affair.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for people in our community to present the name of a firm or individual whom they believe are worthy of an award,” states Chamber President, Rick Shaver. “The Chamber is now accepting nominations for the 2012 awards and they will be presented at our Awards banquet next February 25.”

There are five categories of business awards: Small Business, Business, Entrepreneur, Above and Beyond, and Lifetime Business Achievement The Citizen of the Year award is bestowed on an individual whose selfless contributions to the community have substantially enhanced the well being of its citizens..

There are two additional awards that are not always given. The Breakthrough award recognizes an extraordinary local event or, people accomplishing extraordinary things which benefit the community in unique and meaningful ways. The Dr. Garth Taylor Humanitarian award is presented to an individual from the Cornwall area who has distinguished himself/herself for exceptional contributions outside the community, as epitomized by the late Dr. Taylor.

Descriptions of the awards and nomination forms may be found on the Chamber web site at www.cornwallchamber.com. Nomination forms may also be picked up at the Chamber office at 113 Second Street East.

The Chamber encourages people who know of a worthy individual or business to pick up a form and submit a nomination. Cornwall is experiencing positive growth and the Awards banquet is a unique opportunity to recognize someone who is helping that growth.
