Cornwall - December 15, 2011 - Have you made it a New Year’s resolution to quit smoking this year? Congratulations! And if you haven’t yet, it’s not too late. Quitting smoking can improve your health and quality of life no matter how old you are or how long you’ve been smoking.

But as most smokers know, giving up smoking can be challenging, especially if you don’t have a good support system around you. If you want to quit smoking, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit can help! Our quit smoking programs offer some great support and strategies for making a quit plan, coping with cravings, dealing with slip-ups, and adjusting to life as a non-smoker.

If you’ve decided you want to quit smoking, or even if you’re just thinking about it, the Health Unit can help support you in a number of ways, free of charge:

- Book an appointment with one of our specialists who are trained in helping people quit smoking.
- Take advantage of our online quit smoking program. The program includes downloadable resources and video coaching.

Need more motivation? Two programs are coming to our area that may help you make the decision to quit. Stop on the Road returns this February, providing 5 weeks of FREE nicotine replacement therapy (NRTs) for qualifying participants. To find out if you qualify, call the EOHU at 1 800 267-7120, and ask for Health Line. Also coming up soon is the 2012 Driven to Quit Challenge in which successful quitters could win a free car! To register, visit www.driventoquit.ca or call 1 877 513-5333.
