Cornwall - March 5, 2012 - Last Friday I had the pleasure of taking part in the official ribbon cutting and opening of the new Emergency Medical Services Headquarters on Campbell Street in Cornwall. What a facility! Finally after many years of working out of makeshift facilities located in Cornwall and throughout Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, EMS has a new home.

The building of this facility was financed through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. This stimulus funding was put into place to deal with the global recession. It is an excellent example of what can be done when all levels of government work together. The EMS facilities total cost of $5.1 million was shared equally by the municipal, provincial and Federal governments. This project was one of many similar stimulus projects completed during the past 30 months here in SD&SG and throughout Canada.

Now Emergency Medical Services workers have a state of the art facility to work out of. They have proper storage for their equipment and vehicles. They have adequate training facilities. They even have a staff room where they can take a break or eat their lunch. To say that the workers are pleased would be a huge understatement. All EMS personnel seem very positive and upbeat about this new modern facility. It is an integral part of our riding's infrastructure that will serve Cornwall and SD&SG for many years to come.

The constituents of Stormont Dundas & South Glengarry can now take comfort in the fact that they can now depend on an emergency service second to none. When you call an ambulance for a loved one you can rest assured that the staff and equipment sent to respond to your call will be well trained, fully equipped and ready to deal with your emergency in an efficient, professional manner. I take much comfort in the fact that the residents of SD&SG can now depend on a world class emergency service in their time of need.
