Cops and Rockers - Biggest and best dance party of the year
"If you are a student in grade 5 to 8, then mark this date on your calendar - Friday May 4th - because you are not going to want to miss the biggest and best dance party of the year,” announced Chief Dan Parkinson at this morning’s breakfast held at the Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG to announce the next MuchMusic Video Dance Cops and Rockers Event.

Cornwall - March 9, 2012 - "If you are a student in grade 5 to 8, then mark this date on your calendar - Friday May 4th - because you are not going to want to miss the biggest and best dance party of the year,” announced Chief Dan Parkinson at this morning’s breakfast held at the Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG to announce the next MuchMusic Video Dance Cops and Rockers Event. Speaking to an audience of school Superintendents, Principals, Teachers, Students and various supporters, the Chief reconfirmed his commitment to the Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall /SDG at Marlborough and First Street in Cornwall’s east end. “There are some pretty impressive prizes up for grabs for our top three fundraisers again this year. We hope and believe that we can shatter last year’s attendance and get even more of our youth out to experience and enjoy the event, mixing it up on the dance floor with many of our officers and volunteers,” added Parkinson.

The event, which can accommodate up to 1,100 students, will once again be hosted at the Cornwall Armouries on Fourth Street East, on Friday May 4th 2012. The innovative program unites Police officers and volunteers from the community with students from grades 5 to 8 in Cornwall schools, who in turn use pledge sheets to raise funds for the new Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG.

By raising a minimum $25.00 in total pledges, the students receive a personalized and numbered Cops and Rockers dance pass and a chance to win exciting prizes. Through the generous support of many local sponsors, prizes will be given away during the dance, and this year’s top three fundraisers will pick from a prize pool consisting of an XBOX 360 250GB Kinect Bundle, Apple 8GB 4th Generation iPod Touch and a HP Mini 10.1" Intel Atom N455 Netbook.

Chief Parkinson has once again earmarked 80% of the funds raised at Cornwall’s event for the Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG, while the remaining 20% of the funds will go directly to the participating schools. The more funds a specific school raises, the more they will receive.

“Cops & Rockers is a really unique event for the Boys & Girls Club. It’s teaching kids how they can and do make a difference in their community. Our new “506” clubhouse has been open for just over a year, and the hard work and efforts of the youth played a key role in that. It’s youth helping youth,” says Jacquie Richards Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG.
