Many Cornwall and area residents felt the effects of an earthquake last year on March 16,2011. At 13:36:55 local time a 4.3 magnitude earthquake was measured 5 kilometers south east of Hawkesbury, Ontario.

In 2010, area residents also felt small tremors as a result of an earthquake. On June 23, 2010 at 13:41:41 local time a 5.0 magnitude was measured 10 kilometers southeast of Val-des-Bois, Quebec. Ironically, both of these earthquakes occurred at similar times around 1:30 pm and both happened on a Wednesday.
