Cornwall - July 24, 2012 - Cancer touches all of us. In Canada, one out of every four people will die from cancer. Many more will develop cancer, or have a loved one who will develop cancer.

Your chances of developing cancer depend in part upon your risk factors, such as your age, family history, gender and lifestyle. While your age and family history can’t be changed, others risk factors that involve lifestyle choices are within your control. The good news is that at least half of all cancers can be prevented.

To help reduce your risk:
o Eat well and be active.
o Wear sunscreen.
o Stay away from tobacco.
o Know your body: report any unusual changes to your doctor as soon as possible.
o Get screened according to your doctor’s recommendations.

Risk factors for cancer are different for everyone, and some people may be at higher risk than others. Talk to your doctor to develop an individual screening plan that’s right for you.
