Edmonton - August 1, 2012 - Well it wasn't easy but Canada's come from behind 2-2 draw on Tuesday morning, secured the side a well deserved spot in the final eight in Womens soccer/football, depending on what part of the globe you live in.

Melissa Tancredi continued her torrid pace, scoring twice and giving her four for the tournament, to lead the comeback and handing Canada a legitimate shot at reaching the semi-finals. They will take on the host nation from Great Britain on Friday, with the winner finding themselves in the final four and a chance taking home a medal at the 2012 London Games.

After a rather impressive opening ten minutes in their final group stage match against Sweden, Canada looked as though they were poised to earn the three points that would secure them second spot in Group F. They had carried much of the play and we unlucky to have not found an early marker. Unfortunately for the Canadians, some dreadful defending led to two quick goals by the Swedes and put them in a huge hole before the match was fifteen minutes old.

To their credit, they continued to battle and were rewarded for the efforts before the end of the first half. While teams continue to keep a close eye on wherever Christine Sinclair is on the pitch, it has been the timely finishing abilities of one Melissa Tancredi that has been the difference maker for the Canadians. Her wonderful volley in the dying minutes of the first forty-five, which was beautifully orchestrated by Sinclair and Rhian Wilkinson, finally put Canada on the board but more importantly, gave them a glimmer of hope heading into half-time.

After nearly evening things up in the opening moments of the second half, Canada could not find the equalizer...until the 84th minute. Thanks to yet another timely finish from Tancredi and an exquisite ball from their captain, Canada had completed the comeback that sixty minutes earlier, seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream.

The 2-2 draw left Japan and Sweden at the top of the table in Group F and Canada as the top third place finisher. With the possibility of a quarter-final match-up against the mighty Americans looming, Canada caught a bit of a break with some favourable results and well instead face the host nation from Great Britain in Friday's quarter-finals.

While this side can more than hold their own against the likes of Team USA and Brazil, the later in the competition they face those sides, the better. Finding the result they are searching for against the home side will be no easy task but it is one that the Canadian Women are more than capable of achieving.
