Chicago Bears to retire Mike Ditka's number

Jul. 8, 2013: Thankfully the Chicago Bears organization clarified this issue when they announced that after Mike Ditka’s, they will no longer retire uniform numbers for players. I say this because I was getting confused. Unfortunately from a football operations perspective, the Bears went down a slippery slope of retiring numbers years and years ago. FULL STORY

Expect a resurgence from Devin Hester

Jun. 21, 2013: ProFootballTalk seems to be beating a drum for the Bears to dump Devin Hester. First they jumped on the fact that a local publication noted that Hester is “competing” to be the Bears’ primary kick returner. Then they opined that it wouldn’t cost much for the Bears to cut or trade him. FULL STORY

Sad End to Urlacher Era

Mar. 21, 2013: On Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago Bears issued a press release stating that legendary Middle Linebacker Brian Urlacher will not be returning to the team in 2013. The only team he has known and for which he played for 13 seasons. The first legitimate, lasting superstar player the Bears had drafted in probably 17 years. FULL STORY

Trestman - a pretty unconventional dude, but the right choice

Jan. 18, 2013: Personally, I am excited about the hiring of Marc Trestman as the 14th head coach in Chicago Bears history. As soon as I heard he was a leading candidate, I recognized his name and like most others probably did, wondered what happened to this guy over the last decade. I remember his name being tossed around as a guru in the 1990's into the early 2000's, when he led prolific offenses in San Francisco and Oakland. FULL STORY

Marc Trestman - Bears fans need to trust Phil Emery's decision

Jan. 16, 2013: Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune was burning the midnight oil, and found out overnight that the Chicago Bears will announce the hiring of Marc Trestman as the 14th Head Coach in their history. I trust Phil Emery’s decision. The comparisons of Trestman to Dick Jauron (if Dick Jauron were an offensive genius) are a bit unsettling, but I do trust Emery. FULL STORY

What we learned about the Chicago Bears in Sunday's win over Minnesota

Nov. 27, 2012: Untimely injuries have arrived for the Chicago Bears. Each year that the Bears have contended. they have been remarkably lucky regarding injuries. That luck went out the window when they lost a starting receiver (Devin Hester), both starting guards (Chris Spencer and Lance Louis), their starting running back (Matt Forte) and their All Pro cornerback (Charles Tillman). Is Jay Cutler worth re-signing with the Chicago Bears?

Nov. 19, 2012: Jay Cutler arrived via trade in 2009, I was so excited that the Bears had a bonafide star at the game’s most important position for the first time in my life. While Cutler has brought a greater degree of stability to the position than I had ever seen, as we all know it’s been a much more erratic 3 1/2 years than I ever expected. FULL STORY

Houston, We have a problem!

Nov. 12, 2012: What more can I say about last night’s Chicago Bears loss to the Houston Texans, the only NFL team Chicago has never beaten (0-3) that you don’t already know? But when push comes to shove in the NFL, “could have” isn’t going to get this team past the first round of the playoffs, assuming they get that far. FULL STORY

Chicago Bears will look to avoid the fizzle that plagued Mike Ditka

Nov. 6, 2012: Mike Ditka’s teams started to fizzle down the stretch, which the 2012 Chicago Bears will need to avoid, especially considering the brutal schedule remaining. But it’s certainly good to see the team only 3-4 wins away from a playoff berth. I don’t want to start thinking about Green Bay six weeks in advance, but Lovie Smith must find a way to beat his rival for only the second time since 2008! FULL STORY

Chicago Bears now ranked third in NFL

Oct. 26, 2012: A couple of articles today are icing on the cake after Chicago’s dominant win over Detroit. Profootballtalk now ranks the Bears as the third best team in the NFL behind the Falcons and the Giants. Rankings, schmankings, but it’s nice to see that. With their 5-1 record, the Bears are ahead of Minnesota by one game and Green Bay by two. FULL STORY
