Avalanche Star Matt Duchene and his random act of kindness
I recently read an interesting story about how Colorado Avalanche star forward Matt Duchene made a huge difference with a random act of kindness in the life of an eleven year old girl. Duchene who has family ties to Cornwall lifted the spirits of Trisha Greer of Mindon Ontario. Duchene has proven he is as good off the ice as he is on it – a great ambassador for the sport. Well done Matt!

Stoney Point - August 9, 2013 - I recently read an interesting story about how Colorado Avalanche star forward Matt Duchene made a huge difference with a random act of kindness in the life of an eleven year old girl. Duchene who has family ties to Cornwall lifted the spirits of Trisha Greer of Mindon Ontario, reports the Minden Times.

This is a great story about the generous spirit of an NHL star. A father was trying to buy his bullied daughter a game worn Zdeno Chara jersey (her favorite player), and he raised $500 from his family and friends to create a “cool daddy fund” to purchase it at an auction. Unfortunately, Dad quickly got out bid - now enter Matt Duchene who ended up paying $2,000 for the little girl's jersey.

Some neat quotes from NESN.com –

The Avalanche forward was one of the NHL hosts of the event and was sitting across from Greer.

“Get it for her,” Duchene said. “I’ve got you covered.”

Every time the price went up, Greer glanced at Duchene who nodded his head to keep bidding. Once the price rose to $1,600, Duchene held up two fingers toward Greer.

Greer grabbed the microphone and yelled “Two thousand!” and the jersey was his. He gave the Chara jersey to Trista for her birthday along with a note saying “happy birthday” from Duchene.

Duchene has proven he is as good off the ice as he is on it – a great ambassador for the sport. Well done Matt!
