Wilkes-Barre Scranton - October 4, 2013 - The Pittsburgh Penguins open their 2013-14 season at home tonight against the NJ Devils. Penguins get on the boards first with some really nice goals and keep the Devils out of the net for 60 minutes taking the Devils 3-0.

Chuck Kobasew with a nice drop pass to Bennett coming into the Devils zone sets up the Penguins first goal Bennett puts it on net as Kobasew comes in and gets a rebound goal off of Schneider, Penguins up by one in the first period. Later in the first Crosby gets a nice feed from Super Duper takes it in and snipes a corner making it two nothing Penguins.

Clowe and Glass throw down Clowe gets a cut above his eye Glass takes a couple shots as well first period ended the Penguins ahead by two. Devils getting some great chances on net early on in the second period but Flower holds tight, Penguins return the favors getting some great chances of their own but score remains the same. Clowe was trying to create traffic in front of flower but the boys cleared him out keeping the Devils out of the area and the net. The second period was action end to end but no scoring.

With James Neal out of the lineup for the Penguins Malkin didn’t seem to have the same punch through the second period not even getting a shot on net. Third period action see Zubrus knocking Sutter into the board Sutter taking offense and challenging Zubrus but nothing comes of it. Refs makde a terrible call in the third a great argument for the Hybrid icing Glass was a shoulder ahead of the defender at the face off dot but the Ref calls it icing.

Malkin, Adams and Glass come down on a 3 on 2 after a blocked shot take it to the Devils zone and Adams smokes on past Schneider making it three nothing Penguins. Just after the Pens goal the Devils come right back at Fleury sending one on net that just about bounces off of MAF and into the goal but a glove catch behind the back saves the goal. Later as the Devils are awarded a penalty shot Henrique tried to get the Devils on the board but the Flower saves it.

NJ comes with everything but the kitchen sink nearing the end of the game but MAF comes up big with some great saves the house chanting his name giving him a great boost. Tonight’s win gives MAF his 250 career win.

On a related note we would like to extend our condolences to Martin Brodeur on the passing of his father.
