Canadiens looked bloated in Philadelphia
I get it. It's really hard to resist. But if your going to do a team outing in Philadelphia maybe you should have them delivered post game instead of chowing down at 5 PM. How else would you explain the Montreal Canadiens recent performances in Philadelphia other than to say they look bloated?

Montreal - January 9, 2014 - I get it. It's really hard to resist. But if your going to do a team outing in Philadelphia maybe you should have them delivered post game instead of chowing down at 5 PM. How else would you explain the Montreal Canadiens recent performances in Philadelphia other than to say they look bloated?

THE GOOD

- Tomas Plekanec. Hey, he converted a 2 on 1 - probably because he wasn't the puck carrier. More telling was Plekanec's between period comments to TSN's Gord Miller who asked about the Habs recent power play struggles. Plekanec basically said they have to do a much better job down low instead of focusing on the big shot from the point.

- Josh Gorges. Was the best of the 7 Montreal defensemen while anchoring a perfect PK unit. There was a lot of post game focus on the rebounds/loose pucks around the net that the Flyers buried but Gorges correctly pointed out the plays leading to those goals started from well outside the Montreal blue line. "You (Montreal forwards) want to play a cute game when they (Flyers) want to play hard nosed game" said Gorges. Fact is too many Montreal forwards were lazy. Or bloated.

THE BAD

- Max Pacioretty. Oh he had a lot of company - especially his centerman - but when you see a player the status of Pacioretty look totally disinterested in competing you can't help but wonder if something is up. His performance was much more troubling to me than anything Michel Therrien did.

THE UGLY

- Montreal power play has vanished. They had three opportunities before the Flyers had one but all three were momentum zappers. They managed a total of five shots on goal during the four power plays they received. Overall the PP is on a 4-40 skid, dropping them to 10th overall in the NHL and under the 20% mark.

- Lars Eller's slew foot on Mark Streit. Ugly and extremely dangerous. In his last three games Eller is pointless and -4. He has registered a point in just 3 of his last 16 games.

- Canadiens are pointless in their last 7 trips to Philadelphia. Their last victory in Philly was on April 2, 2010. Season heading there too?
