Maple Leafs miss out on Brad Richards
The Chicago Blackhawks have signed centre Brad Richards to a one-year deal worth $2 million. Richards would have been a solid and affordable option for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Stoney Point - July 1, 2014 - The Chicago Blackhawks have signed centre Brad Richards to a one-year deal worth $2 million. Richards would have been a solid and affordable option for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He had his contract bought out by the New York Rangers in June and based on the money he is receiving, it provided teams with the option of taking a chance on him.

What do you have to lose at one year, $2.0 million?

Richards scored 20 goals and added 31 assists in 82 games with the Rangers in 2013-2014. He added five goals and seven assists in the playoffs with the Rangers.

Richards has won the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe trophy, as the playoff MVP. That type of veteran leadership would not have hurt the Maple Leafs.

Richards was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
