Everett - August 26, 2013 - Four unanswered goals in the second period propelled Team Grey to a 6-5 victory over Team Green in the Everett Silvertips’ annual Green vs. Grey intrasquad game Sunday afternoon at Comcast Arena.

The Green-Grey game concluded a four-day Silvertips’ training camp that displayed the talents of nearly 80 players in practices and scrimmages to open the 2013 WHL preseason.

Patrick Bajkov led the way with a game-high three points for Team Grey and was one of four players to score two goals in the game.

Veteran Reid Petryk also scored twice for Team Grey, while 15-year-old Patrick Khodorenko and veteran Josh Winquist each lit the lamp twice for Team Green. Goaltender Austin Lotz stopped 12 of 15 shots in the third period for Grey to preserve the win after not allowing a single goal during training camp scrimmages.

Netminders Mario Petit (Grey) and Nik Amundrud (Green) both went unblemished in one period of work.

The opening period ended with the teams tied at two apiece, with 1998-born forwards Khodorenko and Keyvan Mokhtari scoring for Team Green while returner Logan Aasman and Bajkov tallying for Grey. Team Grey rose to the occasion with four unanswered goals (two from Petryk, one from Mirco Mueller and another by Bajkov) in the second period to take a commanding 6-2 lead into the third.

Another Khodorenko score midway through the third helped spur Team Green’s late push, which made for an exciting finish. Josh Winquist scored twice in a 38-second span to close the gap to within 6-5 for his squad in the final minute, but time expired on the comeback as the Grey team held on for a one-goal victory.

With training camp now complete, the Silvertips will now prepare to open their 2013 exhibition schedule next weekend when the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic tournament comes to Comcast Arena. The tournament features nine games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between all five US Division teams and the Victoria Royals from the BC Division. The Silvertips play at 7:00 pm each day, facing Victoria on Friday, the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday and the Portland Winterhawks on Sunday.
