Brandon - August 29, 2013 - The opening day of Brandon Wheat Kings Rookie Camp has come to an end at Westman Communications Group Place with Team White scoring an exciting 6-5 victory over Team Gold in the second and final scrimmage of the day.

Ryley Lindgren scored three times and Dylan Thiessen had two goals and five points as the Whites built up a 6-0 lead before having to hold on for the win.

Tyler Coulter, who scored three times in the Golds 10-6 victory over the Black Team Wednesday morning, fired two goals in a losing cause and came close to tieing the game with only a few minutes remaining in regulation time.

A 6' 198 lb local product, Coulter is coming off an impressive season with the AAA Midget Wheat Kings that saw him score 33 goals and 61 points. Lindgren meanwhile had 24 goals and 54 points with the Winnipeg AAA Thrashers while 15-year old Thiessen scored 50 goals last season as a member of the Winnipeg Bantam Monarchs.

Ben Dalke rounded out the scoring for Team White on Wednesday night while Liam Gregor, Linden McCorrister and Braylon Shmyr replied for the Golds.

Shmyr was the Wheat Kings first round selection (12th overall) in the 2012 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. In 28 games with the Calgary AAA Midget Buffaloes last season, he averaged better than a point per game with 12 goals and 29 points.

Camp continues Thursday morning with a practice and a scrimmage game between Team White and Team Black at 10:30. The final scrimmage game of Rookie Camp will be played Thursday night at 6pm. All games are open to the public.

The club's 3-day Main Camp is scheduled to begin on Friday morning and will conclude Sunday afternoon with the annual Canad Inns Intrasquad game at 2pm.
