Sting top Spits with late goal
The Windsor Spitfires couldn’t overcome a three-point effort by Sarnia Sting defenceman Anthony DeAngelo in a 4-3 loss for their first defeat of the pre-season Friday night at the WFCU Centre. Windsor - September 7, 2013 - The Windsor Spitfires couldn’t overcome a three-point effort by Sarnia Sting defenceman Anthony DeAngelo in a 4-3 loss for their first defeat of the pre-season Friday night at the WFCU Centre.

Rookie forward Ryan Moore continued to impress, as he added another goal to his pre-season tally. Moore tied the game at one in the second period after putting a high wrist shot over the blocker of goaltender Justin Fazio. Just three games into his young OHL career, Moore is finding offensive success, regardless of who he is playing with.

“I think everyone on this team is really skilled offensively,” said Moore. “It’s a lot different from when I played minors when there would be one line (that could score).”

Josh Ho-Sang scored just 49 seconds into the third period to give Windsor a 2-1 lead, adding to his assist earlier in the game. It was his third goal in as many contests, and it seemed to kick start both teams offensively.

“This was probably my most disappointing game of the pre-season,” said Ho-Sang. “I kind of got away from my game at the start but then I got my two points and started to correct my game a little. I tried to play more simple.”

After Brett Hargrave (1G, 1A) tied things at 4:07, the goals just kept coming. Remy Giftopoulos restored the lead for the home side, with a slap shot that found its way through Knick Dawe (10 saves) for his first goal of the pre-season.

“I came down the right wing and Moore made a nice play to drive to the net,” said Giftopoulos. “It took the defenceman off my back and I had time to shoot.”

A pair of quick goals proved costly for the Spitfires late in the frame. DeAngelo tied things at 3-3 at 14:33, after Dalen Kuchmey (22 saves) made a couple of big stops, before forward Vladislav Kodola scored less than a minute later to give the visitors a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The teams will meet again Saturday night at the RBC Centre in Sarnia.
