Pufahl takes home WHL Player of the Week honours
The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips’ defenceman Matt Pufahl is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 13, 2013. Pufahl recorded six points on four goals and two assists along with a +5 rating over four games in the last week, helping lead the Silvertips to a 3-0-1-0 record on the road in that span.

Calgary - October 15, 2013 - The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips’ defenceman Matt Pufahl is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 13, 2013.

Pufahl recorded six points on four goals and two assists along with a +5 rating over four games in the last week, helping lead the Silvertips to a 3-0-1-0 record on the road in that span.

On Tuesday, October 8th, Pufahl scored both goals and was named the game’s 1st Star in a 2-1 victory over his former Club, the Red Deer Rebels, in Red Deer, AB.

On Wednesday, October 9th, Pufahl enjoyed his second straight two-goal outing, including netting the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory over the Oil Kings in Edmonton, AB.

On Friday, October 11th, Pufahl notched an assist in a 3-2 shootout victory in Prince George over the Cougars. Pufahl finished his week by recording an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss in Prince George on Saturday.

Pufahl, a 20-year-old from Saskatoon, SK, is in his fourth and final WHL campaign, and first season with the Everett Silvertips. The 6’3”, 210-lb rearguard currently ranks second among all WHL defencemen with five goals and sits tied for third among blue liners with 10 points this season. Pufahl was selected by the Red Deer Rebels in the fourth round, 68th overall, in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Alex Moodie of the Saskatoon Blades for the CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Moodie, an 18-year-old product of Winnipeg, MB, posted a 3-0 record in three starts over the past week, allowing just five goals on 98 shots for a 1.67 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage in that span. The 6’1”, 182-lb netminder stopped 25 of 26 shots and was the 2nd Star in a 6-1 win over the visiting Vancouver Giants on Wednesday, October 9th, turned aside 29 of 30 shots and earned 2nd Star honors in a 2-1 win over the visiting Swift Current Broncos on Friday, October, 11th, and finished his week by stopping 39 of 42 shots while taking 1st Star honors in a 5-3 win over the Wheat Kings in Brandon, MB, on Saturday. Moodie is in his third season in the WHL with the Blades, and currently owns a 3.38 GAA and a .908 save percentage this season.
