Brandon - October 17, 2013 - The Brandon Wheat Kings early season success against the Moose Jaw Warriors continued Wednesday night.

Taylor Cooper's second goal of the game 1:51 into overtime lifted the Wheat Kings to a 3-2 victory, improving Brandon's record to 6-5-0 on the season.

The 18-year old Sherwood Park, Alberta product now has six goals this season and all of them have come against the Warriors.

Captain Ryan Pulock set the stage for Cooper's OT winner by scoring the game tying goal with just 17 seconds reamining in regulation time and coach / general manager Kelly McCrimmon was impressed with his club's play throughout the game and especially after they pulled the goaltender in the final minute.

“I thought our guys had good poise during that stretch,” McCrimmon told Bruce Luebke on CKLQ’s post-game show. “We haven’t been good with the goalie out this year, not only have we not scored been successful in terms of scoring but we’ve given up empty-net goals so I thought, tonight, guys were more poised in that setting.”

Wednesday's win was Brandon's fourth against the Warriors this season and second in less than a week. The Wheat Kings opened up the Thanksgiving long weekend with a come from behind 3-2 Shootout win last Friday and like that game, the goaltending at both ends of the rink was excellent.

Curtis Honey turned aside 30 shots to pick up the win while Justin Paulic made 34 stops in the Warriors net.

“I did not think we were as good defensively tonight as we have been. Some of our mistakes led to real good scoring chances for Moose Jaw and that’s where I thought Curtis was real strong for us,” cCrimmon added. “Early in the game, we made some good saves and he made some good saves with the game on the line to keep it a one-goal game.”

The Wheat Kings weren't the only winners this night as the Canadian Cancer Society auctioned off Chad Robinson's #20 Pink the Rink jersey during the play by play broadcast on 880 CKLQ. The winning bid of $1,200 came from the Robinson Family / Yellowhead Chiefs. Ryan Pulock's jersey will be auctioned off Friday morning on 94.7 Star FM, with fans and businesses encouraged to call in between 6am and 12 noon.

The remaining jerseys will be available during Saturday's Pink the Rink game against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers. Eighteen will be auctioned off during an in-game Silent Auction while two others will be won through a special Cancer Society raffle.
