Moose Jaw - October 25, 2013 - Moose Jaw erased a three goal third period deficit Thursday to come from behind and beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime.

Turnovers hurt the Warriors in the first period. A failed clearing attempt at 5:09 landed on the stick of Hurricanes forward Axel Blomqvist who beat Zachary Sawchenko to make it 1-0.

Moose Jaw found themselves on the penalty kill with less than seven minutes to go in the frame. The Warriors got caught in the neutral zone which led to a Hurricane odd man rush that resulted in a Tyler Wong goal.

The Warriors had a better start to the second than they did in the first but they weren’t able to finish their drives. The most notable opportunity of the period came when Jack Rodewald led an early odd-man rush with Brayden Point. Rodewald took the shot streaking down the left wing, he was able to beat goalie Corbin Boes but unfortunately the puck rang on the post.

With Lethbridge on the power play with less than five minutes to go in the period, Griffin Foulk’s slap shot was deflected inside the Warrior circle and beat a screened Sawchenko to make it 3-0.

Moose Jaw outshot the Hurricanes 12-11 in the second, but they were 0-for-2 on the power play in the period while Lethbridge was 1-for-2 in the frame.

The tribe started the third on the power play, Brayden Point scored his sixth of the season 39 seconds in to break-up the shutout. Back on the man advantage at 6:22 Travis Brown’s slap shot from the Lethbridge line beat Boes to pull the Warriors to within one.

Moose Jaw outshot the Hurricanes 16-5 in the third and pressed hard for the equalizer. With just over four minutes remaining in regulation import rookie Alexander Chirva beat Corbin Boes short side glove to tie the game at three.

In overtime Travis Brown intercepted a Hurricane pass in the neutral zone, and then broke into the Lethbridge slot where he rifled a shot into the twine to complete the comeback.

Brown finished with two goals and three points, Point had a goal and two points, Jack Rodewald had two assists, Zachary Sawchenko made 23 saves for his third win, and the Warriors power play was 2-for-3.

Moose Jaw will travel to Cranbrook, BC Friday, they finish off this two-game Central Division road trip Saturday against the Kootenay Ice. Coverage begins on Country 100 starting with the PreGame Show with James Gallo at 6:40pm.

Rielly Not Returning… Early Thursday morning the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that 19-year-old Moose Jaw Warrior defenceman Morgan Rielly would be remaining in the NHL past the allowed nine games. Rielly is still eligible to return to the WHL, but as soon as he plays his tenth game he will be entering the first year of his entry level contract. Rielly was the fifth overall pick by the Leafs in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, in eight games with Toronto he has four assists, two penalty minutes, and is a -3 while averaging 18 minutes a game. Rielly played 143 games for the Warriors from 2010 to 2013, he has 21 goals and 100 points.
