Edmonton - November 17, 2013 - After six games without a point, Mitch Moroz is once again on fire.

Moroz scored twice, including the eventual game winner, and added an assist Saturday night as the Edmonton Oil Kings (14-8-0-1) downed the Swift Current Broncos (15-9-0-2) 4-2 in front of 7,631 fans on Volvo of Edmonton Minor Hockey Night at Rexall Place.

Held to just one assist on the team’s recent eight-game road swing after starting the season with 12 goals in 13 games, Moroz has roared back to life since the Oil Kings returned to Rexall, picking up three goals and two assists in two games.

“It’s good to be home,” Moroz said. “I don’t know what was really going on on the road. I was still going to the hard areas but (now) I’m just bearing down and not putting so much pressure on myself to score.”

Both of Moroz’s goals came from the dirty areas, first banging home a loose puck on a scramble in the crease in the first period and then grabbing a rebound off an Ashton Sautner point shot that hit the back boards and putting it past Swift Current Netminder Eetu Laurikainen. The latter goal stood up as the game winner and swung momentum back in Edmonton’s favour after the Broncos tied the game 2-2 with a pair of goals early in the third period.

“I just wanted to answer back, try to get one back for the guys,” Moroz said.

“It was a good character win, for sure.”

“I think it just shows our leadership in the locker room,” added Oil Kings forward Reid Petryk. “Some of the guys just told the guys that we need to focus and get back out there and start working hard.

Petryk and Curtis Lazar also scored for the Oil Kings who snapped Swift Current’s 10-game point streak.

“It was an overall 60 minutes of hard work and I’m really excited about the two points,” Petryk said.

Graham Black and Brett Lernout scored for the Broncos, the only two to get past Oil Kings Netminder Tristan Jarry who made 22 saves for the win.

Laurikainen stopped 34 shots in the Swift Current net, including absolute robberies of Brett Pollock and Edgars Kulda.

Edmonton will be back in action Friday when they host the Prince George Cougars.
