Canadiens acquire Parenteau from Avs
Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the acquisition of forward Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and a fifth round draft pick in 2015 from the Colorado Avalanche, in return for forward Daniel Brière.

Montreal - July 1, 2014 - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the acquisition of forward Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and a fifth round draft pick in 2015 from the Colorado Avalanche, in return for forward Daniel Brière.

Parenteau, 31, collected 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists) in 55 games with the Avalanche in 2013-14. The right winger served 30 penalty minutes, while averaging 16:57 of ice time per game. He recorded a +3 differential and 110 shots on goal for a 12.7% shooting percentage. Parenteau added three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in seven playoff contests.

Since his NHL debut in 2006-07, Parenteau has totaled 205 points (73 goals, 132 assists) in 291 NHL regular-season games. The 6’’, 193 lbs forward scored 23 powerplay goals, added six game winning goals and has served 209 penalty minutes.

A native of Hull, Quebec, Parenteau was selected in the ninth round, 264th overall by the Anaheim Ducks at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Avalanche, Parenteau suited up for the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers and New York Islanders.

Parenteau also had success at the AHL level, especially with the Hartford Wolf Pack where he had an 81-point season in 2007-08 and a 78-point the following season. He was named a First Team AHL All-Star in 2008-09.

At the junior level, Parenteau played 200 games in three seasons in the QMJHL from 2000 to 2003, registering 273 points (104 goals, 169 assists). He had a 118-point season (51 goals, 67 assists) with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in 2001-02. On the international scene, Parenteau was a member of Team Canada that won the silver medal at the 2003 World Junior Championship, as he ranked second on the team in points and first in goals (4-3-7).

Daniel Brière, 36, collected 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 69 games with the Canadiens in 2013-14. He joined the Canadiens as a free agent on July 4, 2013.
