Crosby to have wrist surgery
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist within the next few days to repair damage that hindered his play during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Pittsburgh - July 9, 2014 - Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist within the next few days to repair damage that hindered his play during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

According to the report, the surgery is not expected to force Crosby to miss any time during the 2014-15 season. The Penguins open the season on Oct. 9 against the Anaheim Ducks at Consol Energy Center.

After leading the League in scoring during the regular season, Crosby had one goal and eight points in 13 playoff games. He was held without a point in the Penguins' final three games, all losses, and they blew a 3-1 series lead against the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Second Round.

During and after the playoffs, Crosby said he was healthy. But a source told the newspaper Tuesday that Crosby "did play with a terrible wrist."

A source close to Crosby told the newspaper that the procedure, "is not major, but you can't play the same way," with what Crosby was dealing with.

The report said it was not known when or how Crosby was injured.
