Ottawa - November 14, 2014 - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray disclosed that he has Stage 4 colon cancer during an interview that aired Thursday night on TSN.

"There is no cure at this point for me," Murray told Michael Farber in the TSN interview. "The word is that we'll keep doing chemo and hopefully reduce the tumors and the effect and I'll get some time out of that."

Murray said in a statement issued by the Senators on July 7 that he had cancer and that he would begin treatment immediately. However, the severity of his illness was not disclosed.

Murray said he was diagnosed June 23 but likely had the disease for as long as a decade despite showing no symptoms until this year.

"The doctor told me very matter-of-factly that I had cancer. I had colon cancer within my liver and I had some in my lung. That it was very serious and that I had to get into treatment right away," said Murray, who has been Senators GM since 2007.

Murray, 71, said he did not have a colonoscopy, partly because there is no history of cancer in his immediate family.

"Like a lot of men do, I put it off," he said. "A simple colonoscopy, in my case, probably would have solved this problem I have."
